Types of Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a generic term that describes eyelid surgery. There are actually two types of blepharoplasty: upper eyelid lift surgery and lower eyelid lift surgery. Both procedures involve the removal of excess skin, but there are subtle differences between the two.
Upper eyelid lift surgery gets carried out to address baggy or drooping upper eyelids, particularly for patients where the excess skin interferes with their peripheral vision.
Lower eyelid lift surgery gets done to diminish ‘bags’ or dark circles under the eyes, especially when significant shadowing occurs due to light not reflecting off the skin.
Average Cost for Blepharoplasty
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, eyelid surgery costs approximately $3,282 on average.. However, this average cost is not all-inclusive as it doesn’t take into account fees for surgical facilities, anesthesia, and medication.
It’s worth noting that average costs are often based on the surgeon’s experience, plus the type of procedure getting conducted. Other factors can also impact the total price paid for an eyelid lift.
Factors That Influence Final Cost
As you know, blepharoplasty can refer to upper or lower eyelid surgery (or both). If you decide to have both procedures carried out, this will raise the cost of your surgery. Some patients may benefit from having upper and lower blepharoplasty for enhanced results.
Another factor that can influence what you pay for an eyelid lift is if you have the cosmetic procedure done simultaneously with another. For example, some patients may elect to have blepharoplasty with a facelift.
Other influential factors include geographical location. Some cosmetic surgeons may charge less or more than the average cost purely because of where their facility is situated.
