What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure that lifts the breasts and nipples to a more youthful, flattering position. Sagging breasts are a common concern and are often a result of changes in weight, pregnancy, nursing, aging, and gravity. Depending on the extent of the procedure needed, we will recommend one of the following incision methods:

  • Doughnut: incisions made along each areola
  • Loli-pop: incisions made along each areola, along with a vertical incision 
  • Anchor: incisions made along each areola, with a vertical incision as well as a horizontal incision

During your consultation, Dr. Stile will discuss what you want to accomplish for treatment and let you know what results you can expect from your procedure. With a breast lift, Dr. Stile will reshape and reposition the breasts and nipples if necessary to suit your aesthetic goals.

What to Expect After a Breast Lift?

Rest and recovery are essential to ensuring optimal results after a breast lift. After a breast lift, you may experience some swelling and bruising, which is normal and should fade within two weeks. After your procedure, you will need to wear a surgical support bra to support your breasts and help reduce swelling. You may also need to have drainage tubes placed in the treatment site for a short time to ensure optimal healing.

It is important to avoid bending down or lifting heavy objects, as well as strenuous exercise or activity. You should also ensure you protect your breasts and incisions from the sun, as UV light can make scarring more visible.
