Saline vs. Silicone Implants
There are two types of implants that may be used during breast augmentation: saline and silicone. Saline implants feature a sterile saltwater filling and silicone shell. Dr. Stile inserts these implants empty and fills them once they placed. If saline implants rupture, the sterile salt will naturally absorb into your body.
Silicone breast implants are more popular than their silicone alternatives because they offer a natural appearance with less firmness and heaviness. They are pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel that’s similar to natural breast tissue and pricier than saline implants.
The Longevity of Breast Implants
Thanks to technology and medical breakthroughs, breast implants have dramatically improved in quality. Although they don’t come with an expiration date, they do not last forever. Fortunately, however, both saline and silicone implants can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. You are welcome to remove them sooner due to a cosmetic concern or complication.
