Tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty procedure, is a very popular cosmetic procedure often included in a “mommy makeover”. In 2018 alone over 130,081 tummy tucks were performed in the USA as reported by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (1). Most of my patients come in seeking an improvement in the appearance of their abdomen following pregnancy or significant weight loss. This usually results in an improvement in the patient’s self-esteem and personal image. They often feel stigmatized for wanting surgery by friends, family – those close to them.
