What is an Eyelid Lift?

The eyes are responsible for various expressions that we make to show our emotions to the world around us. As a result, they are one of the first facial features people notice. Unfortunately, they are also one of the first areas to age. Over time, you may see wrinkles, sagging skin, and puffy fat pads forming around your eyes. 

These signs of aging can cause you to appear older than you are. At Stile Aesthetics, Dr. Stile uses eyelid lifts to help his patients rejuvenate their eyes so they feel more youthful and confident. 

WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Blepharoplasty is the medical term for an eyelid lift. Eyelid surgery removes excess skin, fat, and tissue from the upper and lower eyelids that cause a droopy, exhausted appearance. With Dr. Stile’s methods, he may remove or reposition the fat pads to maintain facial volume while diminishing protruding puffiness.

WHAT TYPES OF EYELID LIFTS ARE THERE?

There are three types of eyelid lifts: upper, lower, and combined. Depending on your personal goals and current condition, Dr. Stile will discuss the best option for your facial rejuvenation.

A combined eyelid lift addresses the upper and lower eyelid in one procedure. Most surgeries take one to two hours.

Upper eyelid lifts make an incision on the natural fold of the eyelid and extend outward as much as possible. The extension allows Dr. Stile to address fullness and skin folds on the outer upper lid. The incision is closed with absorbable sutures, meaning no removal by the surgeon.

Lower eyelid lifts address lower eyelid puffiness and sagging. Dr. Stile makes an incision along the bottom lashline and removes extraneous fat and tissue. He may include injectables or fat fillers to your eyelid lift to add volume to the area if you struggle with hollowing around the eyes. 

Dr. Stile also provides eyelid lifts for men to address crow’s feet and other aging concerns common in men. He can customize this procedure to preserve and enhance an alert, masculine appearance.

HOW LONG DO EYELID LIFT RESULTS LAST?

Eyelid lifts address common eye concerns such as wrinkling, under-eye bags, drooping, sagging, and vision impairment from the sagging of the upper eyelid. Most patients see initial results after two weeks and continued improvement as their swelling subsides. 

Most patients see results lasting for five to seven years after an upper eyelid lift and indefinite results with a lower eyelid lift.  While the results are long-lasting, eyelid lifts cannot prevent natural aging around the eyes. Patients may see aging in the upper eyelids after many years, but lower eyelid lift results are typically permanent.
