What to Expect From a Tummy Tuck Recovery

During a tummy tuck, Dr. Stile will make an incision over your lower abdomen and elevate your skin. For this reason, the recovery will take some time. After your procedure, Dr. Stile will ask you to refrain from heavy lifting and vigorous physical activity for at least six weeks.

If your job is physically demanding, Dr. Stile will request that you take at least a month off. You may be able to resume work sooner if you have a desk job. Your tummy tuck treatment plan will determine the length of your recovery process.

Dr. Stile has found that most tummy tuck patients believe that the recovery process is well worth it. They are more than satisfied with their results and glad they went through the surgery.

Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

Following a tummy tuck, you can enjoy smooth, taut skin as well as tight abdominal muscles. You may also find that a tummy tuck resolves your stretch marks. It can make it easier to shop for clothes because you’ll feel good in tighter shirts and dresses. In addition, a tummy can leave you with a youthful appearance.

Good Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

If you’re at or near your goal weight and bothered by sagging belly skin that’s resistant to diet and exercise, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. However, if your goal is to lose weight, Dr. Stile will not recommend a tummy tuck.

A tummy tuck is intended to tighten loose skin and resolve abdominal muscle damage that is common after pregnancy or weight loss. If you have plans to get pregnant or undergo excessive weight loss down the road, you should hold off on this procedure.
