Do you wish you had a flat stomach? If so, an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck can help. This procedure involves removing excess fat and skin from the abdominal muscles. It also resolves any weakened or separated muscles.

After a tummy tuck, you can enjoy a flat, taut stomach and feel more confident in your own skin. If you lead a busy lifestyle, you may be wondering how long the recovery period is. Keep reading to find out.

What to Expect From a Tummy Tuck Recovery

During a tummy tuck, Dr. Stile will make an incision over your lower abdomen and elevate the abdominal skin off of the underlying six-pack muscles. For this reason, it will take some time for you to fully recover from the procedure.

Dr. Stile will advise that you wait a minimum of six weeks before you participate in any heavy lifting or vigorous activity. If you have a physical job, he may ask you to take a month off work. You can resume work sooner if you have a desk job.

Although the tummy tuck procedure does come with a fairly long recovery period, most patients report that the results make it well worth it. After you’ve recovered, you can enjoy a beautiful midsection for years to come, as long as you lead a healthy lifestyle.

Keep in mind that the intensity of your tummy tuck (whether it’s a mini tummy tuck or full tummy tuck) will dictate your exact recovery plan.

Good Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

If you are at or near your goal weight yet but can’t get rid of loose or sagging belly skin despite regular exercise and diet, a tummy tuck can be a great option. On the other hand, if your goal is weight loss, this is not the procedure for you.

A tummy tuck is solely performed to tighten loose skin and resolve muscle damage in the abdomen area after pregnancy or drastic weight loss. If you plan on becoming pregnant or losing a substantial amount of weight, you should hold off on this procedure.
