WHAT IS DYSPORT®?
Dysport® is an injectable treatment for expression lines and wrinkles. It is a type of neuromodulator, making it a close relative of Botox®. This anti-aging treatment relaxes targeted facial muscles, leading to a refreshed, relaxed appearance. It can be used to treat or prevent signs of aging, letting you look naturally youthful. Dysport® and Botox® are used in a similar way to address concerns like frown lines and crow’s feet.
WHAT IS DYSPORT® MADE OF?
Dysport® is referred to as a neuromodulator because it modulates or changes the signals from your nerves to your facial muscles. The compound that achieves this is called botulinum toxin. This compound is not toxic to your nerves or muscles; they will return to normal when Dysport® wears off. The term “neuromodulator” is more accurate for how botulinum toxin works.
Like Botox®, Dysport® uses accessory proteins that escort the botulinum toxin to its destination. These proteins differ between the two, giving them slightly different properties. The actual mechanism of the botulinum toxin is the same for all neuromodulators. The differences come from the proteins that help them reach and bind to the nerves.
WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE WITH DYSPORT®?
Dysport® results can become visible as little as a day or two after treatment, with full results after a few days. Results usually last three to four months, although they may last longer for some people. Dysport® is used to treat lines and wrinkles between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet. You will notice that the treated areas look smooth and refreshed. You can schedule occasional maintenance appointments to keep your results as long as you want.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME WITH DYSPORT®?
Dysport® injections are fast enough to squeeze into a lunch break, and you can return to work immediately with no downtime. You may have minor bruising, redness, or swelling spots that fade within a few days. Avoid rubbing your face for the next few hours and wait 24 hours to resume your exercise routine.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DYSPORT®?
Candidates for Dysport® are healthy adults who want to address expression lines and wrinkles. Good candidates have reasonable expectations and goals. Candidates range widely in age, from those just developing lines to those with deeper wrinkles. You should not have Dysport® if you are pregnant, take certain medications, or have an infection in the treatment area.
